Double is the second of three singles this year from the indie pop trio Wet, in anticipation of their upcoming album Two Lives, set for release in Spring 2025.
Wet’s vocalist Kelly Zutrau revealed “In early 2022, I flew out to Portland to work with Buddy for a few weeks. Initially, we didn’t accomplish much—walking around, talking, playing cards, drinking beer, avoiding the studio. I felt uninspired. Then, on our first actual recording day, I found out I was pregnant.”
Blending the trio’s signature sound of dreamy synths and introspective lyrics, Double’s fluttering dnb drums focus the track with their gentle, driving force, echoing the anticipation and new focus that Zutrau must have experienced during this time. The glistening vocals repeating “I’ll be alright” over calm, intentional piano chords give a sense of dealing with the anxiety of this revelation.
Double feels like a window into Zutrau’s being during the writing process and brings with it a new, exciting energy to the trio’s music. "Double’ captures this transition, the merging of the many lives I had imagined into one or two real ones.”
